Winner of the 2017 Spielwarenmesse Toy Award Preschool (36 years), ATA Educational Toy of the Year. The Hape Mighty Mountain Mine is a magnificently designed resource promoting the development and understanding of the curriculum areas of Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics (STEAM). Children have the ability to engage with scientific processes such as experimenting and problem solving as they use trial and error to explore the ways in which elements such as the crane, conveyor belt and waterfall operate. During these processes children are also developing fine motor strength and dexterity as they rotate, connect, grip, grab and turn the intricate pieces of the resource. The Hape trains are designed with reality in mind, easily allowing children to transfer what they have learnt in real world settings using identification techniques such as pattern spotting, to assist with the development of knowledge and understanding. Most importantly, The Hape Mighty Mountain Mine is fun! With something new and different at every turn, the sinuous journey the train takes down the mountain provides sensory stimulation with sounds, textures and colours a continual encounter. Compatible with all major wooden railway systems. Made of wood and plastic. Measures 58.5 H x 92 W x 66cm D.

Early Childhood Education - Educational Experience

Mathematics has been long regarded an important part of Early Childhood pedagogy. Since Friedrich Frobel founded the first kindergarten in 1837, he developed his ‘Spielgaben’ or ‘Gifts’ that embraced mathematical concepts of symmetry, shape and number. The series of gifts were the first ‘educational’ playthings and are made of natural materials and are open-ended, specifically designed to demonstrate the key concept of ‘unity’ that can be recognised in play.
