How does Educational Experience support sustainability?

Educational Experience continuously works with suppliers to ensure the sustainable use of resources and materials. We either reuse or recycle all packaging materials to reduce any waste going to landfill. We work with our suppliers to ensure their product packaging is fit for purpose and includes the highest level of recycled content. All our catalogues are printed on paper that is manufactured from sustainable and renewable resources and is certified to the ISO 14001 Environmental Management Systems.

Our Fundraising Catalogue is printed by Offset Alpine Printing under ISO 14001 Environmental Certification. Our printer; Offset Alpine Printing (OAP) has a strong paper purchasing policy that encourages responsible paper production and forestry practices. The paper used comes from suppliers that are Chain of Custody Certified by either PEFC or FSC and are committed to obtaining their raw materials from well managed forests, which have been certified to international standards. It ensures that paper does not come from any high-conservation or protected areas or contribute towards any corrupt or illegal activities.

OAP regularly checks that its suppliers are fully compliant with its purchasing policies.  This policy is a component of OAP’s ISO 14001 Environmental Management System which also covers all areas involved in the print production of our Fundraising Catalogue.

There are a number of other initiatives to make the printing process more environmentally friendly, for instance OAP has installed 6x 45,000 litre rainwater tanks, reducing its water consumption by 37%. The waste paper from the presses and bindery is collected and bailed for recycling, trimming the amount of waste heading for landfill by 39%. The ink cartridges are chipped and then recycled, as is the aluminium used in the printing plates, even the paper dust is captured and compressed into fuel bricks.
