Starting school is an important milestone in any child and family’s life. For families of children with disabilities, the transition to school requires additional thought, time, planning and support to make the process as smooth and positive as possible.

Early Childhood Intervention Australia NSW chapter has developed a new resource to help children with disabilities transition to school. Transition to School is a web-based resource funded by the NSW Department of Family and Community Services, Ageing, Disability and Home Care.

The new website contains practical information for families, early childhood intervention professionals, early childhood education and care professionals, teachers in schools and the wider community.

This resource fosters a community-wide approach to school-readiness by focusing on developing collaborative relationships by all those involved in transition to school.

Information is presented in a visually meaningful manner and the website relates to the whole range of disabilities, school sectors and diverse cultural backgrounds.

The Transition to School website has been developed with reference to the latest research literature and in consultation with stakeholders around NSW.
