Going back to school after a long holiday can be daunting for a lot of children (and their teachers), but spare a thought for the little ones that are entering school for the first time. Some are scared, nervous, excited and happy all at the same time. The EE team spoke to two first timers about their thoughts on starting school.

Alexandra, 4,  is going to preschool for the first time this year after being in fulltime care at home. She is a little sister with a brother at big school and she likes to sing and dance.


What are you most looking forward to about preschool?

That you can paint!

Playing, painting, um and resting.

What do you hope your new preschool teacher is like?

Happy, funny, friendly and not cranky


    Sebastian, 5, is starting Kindergarten this year after being in long day care since he was 2. He is a big brother and he likes Lego and Soccer.

Writing my name.

What things do you think you will be doing at school?

I think I will do some craft and learn to do maths. What’s maths?

What do you want to learn at school?

I want to learn how to write the word “Monster”.

What will you miss most about not being at preschool?

I’ll miss Liam, Harry and Hugh.

If you could have anything at school what would it be?

I think it would be playing soccer.

What do you hope your new school teacher is like?

I hope they are friendly.
